The Girl In The Gatehouse - Julie Klassen

First off I will say I LOVED the book! I've always loved everything Jane, Jane Eyre and Jane Austen. And this book is very Jane Austenish. I was a bit wary to read it cause I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and everyone I asked said the book was very like the AMAZING works of Jane Austen. I thought no one could possibly be as good as Jane Austen. Well I was wrong! Julie Klassen wrote this book with superb authenticity to Jane Austen. She would have made Jane Austen proud with this book. It's laced with mystery, slight humor, romance, wit, and most importantly to make a great book, scandal!

Summary of the book:
Miss Mariah Aubrey, banished after a scandal,
hides herself away in a long-abandoned gatehouse
on the far edge of a distant relative's estate.
There, she supports herself and her loyal servant
the only way she knows how--by writing novels
in secret.

Captain Matthew Bryant,
returning to England successful and wealthy
after the Napoleonic wars,
leases an impressive estate from a cash-poor
nobleman, determined to show the society beauty
who once rejected him what a colossal mistake
she made. When he discovers an old gatehouse
on the property, he is immediately intrigued
by its striking young inhabitant and sets out
to uncover her identity, and her past.
But the more he learns about her,
the more he realizes he must distance himself.
Falling in love with an outcast would ruin his
well-laid plans.

The old gatehouse holds secrets of its own.
Can Mariah and Captain Bryant uncover
them before the cunning heir to the estate
buries them forever?

Definitely if you are a fan of Jane Austen I'd recommend this book!

The next book I'm doing is That Certain Spark by Cathy Marie Hake.

Emily, what a great review! Hmm...a writer in hiding after a scandal, and a wealthy captain leasing the gatehouse she's hiding in. It sounds like a great story. And I love Jane Austen. I may just have to read it! :-)
